Originally conceived as a golf community, Reed Development, instead, carved a 165-acre man-made freshwater lake out of the land. The inspiration for becoming the Hilton Head area's first private lake community came from Reed Development's customers. Now nationally recognized with two "Best in American Living Awards," Hampton Lake is a place that the entire extended family - from grandparents to grandkids - can enjoy. November 2005	Ground-floor homesite release
December 2005	Development permit for Phase I received / Construction of the lake begins
January 2006	Phase I Plat recorded
Spring 2006	HUD approval for Phase I homesites / Phase I infrastructure begins
May 2006	Lakeside Village groundbreaking / Construction of Doc's Boathouse and Fitness Central begins /First ever Preview Visits / Spring homesite release
July 2006	First 100 homesites closed / Phase I bulkheads completed
August 2006	200th homesite closed / Lakehouse construction begins
October 2006	Townhomes, villas, cottages, and Idea Homes announced
Fall 2006	Excavation of Hampton Lake substantially completed
Winter 2006	First owners begin custom home construction
Spring 2007	The lake is substantially filled / Grand Opening of Lakeside Village / Product models and builder's Idea Homes open
February 2008	Lakeside Amenity Village named the nation’s “Best Community Facility” by the National Assoc. of Home Builders (NAHB)
March 2008	Grand Opening of Dog Paddle Park
December 2008	Hampton Lake named 2008's "Best Community in America" by NAHB
Spring 2009	Cottage Imagination Collection, the first in the LifeSmart Series, models open
Summer 2009	Three Har-Tru tennis courts open at Lakeside Amenity Village
Fall 2009	The Lakeland Collection, the second in the LifeSmart section, models open
