Cold Water Fishing

In today’s fishing club meeting we covered fishing in cold water. Coming up here soon we will be fishing in “COLD” water. I consider cold water anything less than 50 degrees honestly. You can use the same techniques as you use year round you just need to slow down. Like the saying “if you think you’re going slow enough, slow down!” the bass are slowing down with the water temperature. The cooler the temperature the slower they are. That doesn’t mean that the bass can’t be caught it just means you need to put it right in front of them to get them to bite. Doing small things like using a light weight, so the fall is slower. Using a bait that moves a lot of water (Rage Tail Anaconda). The biggest thing is to get there attention and move the baits slowly.  Crankbaits and Spinnerbaits work as well but once again slow them down. Remember to bundle up and stay warm out there & have fun!

Cold Morning Fishing

Well on my Wednesday morning trip this week we had a little bit of a suprise. It was 45* outside at 6:30 in the AM!!! That was a shocker for this time of year. So we suited up and got out on the lake at 7am and hit the water. I started off by throwing a rat-l-trap and caught a little dink (1.5lb) and my two fishing buddys were throwing a Texas Rigged Worm. I wanted to be different so I stuck to the lipless crankbait. I kept using that and we were all having a tough time finding the pattern they wanted. The water temperature was down to 74* and the fish were somewhat lethargic. We weren’t seeing too much activity until closer to 9am. We swung by the bass motel and on our way there caught a nice fat 3lb bass. Once we arrived at the bass motel we caught two fish quickly on texas rigged Rage Tail Anacondas. All in all great morning to be out on the lake yet the bass bite wasn’t too great that early with that much of a cold snap.

Fall Temperatures are upon us.

On my weekly trip out on the lake I noticed today that the water temperatures are dropping rapidly with these cooler nights & cool rain. The water temperature last Wednesday was 87* this morning at 10:30 81*! That is a great temperature to have. You’ll here me say this all the time my favorite water temperatures are between 65-75*, I can’t wait for this weather to stay here for good! Fishing before and sometimes even after these storms can up your chances of having a good trip!

Fishing the Morning bite

Well the last week got hot again :( . But that doesn’t mean the fish weren’t biting. Mr. Ty Delmonico and I went out on Saturday morning of last week and tried out the bite. I ended up catching 2 and he caught 4 in the short 2 hour trip we took. The two bass I caught were on my all time favorite lure the Rage Tail Shad. Mr. Delmonico caught his on worms on the bottom both shaky head and texas rigged. We were fishing around 7:30 am and had a great time. Here’s some pictures from our trip.

Fishing is getting good.

Well bank fishing is getting even better around the lake.  This fish was caught by Matt McSorley. This bass was caught yesterday evening around the boat ramp ( I believe). The bass are really starting to pack on the pounds getting ready for the Fall. Keep fishing and getting out on the lake.

Fall is approaching!

Ahh…my favorite time of year! The birds are chirping and the air is cooler and the bass fishing turns on white hot.

The air temperatures are already falling. The water temperatures are dropping as well in the last two weeks the water temperature has dropped 10 degrees. With these cooler temperatures it will bring the bass back to a real feeding mood. The bass really are more active in the 65-75* degree water temperature. So remember keep on hitting the lake and catching some bass. Swing on  by The Tacklebox and see me if you need anything or want to get some of our new updated tackle inventory!

Tight Lines everyone,

Remember this is what we’ll be catching out there!

Beat The Heat & Chill In the Shade

Well it’s proof that the big Bluegill will eat. This young lady here caught this monster 12oz bluegill right under the boathouse. It’s proof that you can catch fish in the middle of the day……under the boathouse :)

Early Morning Tactics/ Fishing Club Meeting July 10th

Well I’ve posted plenty of times telling you about fishing early morning. My tactics change a little bit in the summer compared to other times in the year. I like to start out my mornings throwing top water. I usually tie on one of three things: Buzzbait, Popper, or a cigar bait(spook). I have been really falling in love with the Rage Tail Rage Shad, which I posted about in the past. I’ve caught some really nice bass with those. Next step is to fish on the bottom with a natural approach: Texas Rig or Shaky Head. I personally like to throw a Texas Rigged curltail worm then the shaky head. Shaky head fishing can be deadly. When fishing these techniques I usually go as light as I can. I will normally throw a 1/8 oz or 3/16 oz weight (this one only on super windy days). Less weight the more sensitive the rig.  If that doesn’t work I’ll fall back on the crankbaits I can cover a lot of water that way. Once I locate the fish by using the crankbait I’ll start to pick them apart on the bottom with the techniques listed above.

Here’s some pictures from last weekend’s trip:

Also don’t forget to attend our fishing club meeting this weekend at Doc’s Boathouse. We will be going out on the lake and seeing some of my Honey Holes.

Summer Fishing pt. 2

It’s getting hot out there in the middle of the day still, but the early morning bite is still there! I would be throwing a popper, buzzbait, or a creature bait on the bottom. The reacton bite in the morning is always the first thing I go to. Big thing to remember is keep at it. This time of the year is a little tougher due to the heat but there are still bass being caught.

Remember we have a fishing club meeting next Saturday @ 11am at Doc’s Boathouse. We will be going out on the lake and I will be showing some of my hot spots. Hope to see everyone there!
