The Bass Bite is On.

Fishing this time of year is always great. There is the cool mornings and the warm days, the nice breezes. The other great part is the water starts to warm up and the bass start to feed like crazy! We have been doing pretty good the last couple of weeks. We have been seeing our bass numbers go way up. I went out last Friday I got on the water at 7:00am sharp. I was planning on hitting some of the feeders before 8am because that is when they were going off. I threw a lip-less crank-bait around the feeder back by the Coach Homes. “BOOM!!!” as soon as it hit the water I had a huge strike. I set the hook and held on. Well what I thought was going to be the lake record Hybrid turned out to be a 10lb grass carp. You can see in the pictures below that I actually hooked the carp perfectly in the lips. That tells me the he went after it on purpose. I was shocked! Well after I released  the fish I went on to the boat ramp and caught two short fish there on a Carolina Rig. I continued around the cove till I got blown out of there from the wind. I worked in some of the narrow coves a Texas rigged worm. I caught another couple of fish there as well.

What I learned from this trip was that the bass bite in the morning is much better than the evening this time of year. I will always have a whacky worm, lip-less crank bait, and a Texas/Carolina Rigged Worm set up. Get out there and get some tight lines!

Spring Fishing is Here!!!

Well for the last week now we have been doing great. We have had nothing but tight lines. Fishing in the middle of the days on cooler days and fishing all day on the warmer days. The Bass have been biting mainly on soft baits. We have been using the yum zellamanders and the zoom worms. Texas rigging is you best bet but some have been caught on lipless crankbaits as well. The bass have been ranging in the high one pound range up into the mid five pound range! We have been seeing more and more 4lbers caught in the last couple of weeks than ever! Well get out there and catch some! Come by and see me at The Tackle Box, or come to one of our fishing club meetings April 10th at the lakehouse @ 11:00am. Tight Lines Everyone!

Guest Speaker Fuzzy Davis

Well we are in for a special treat this weekend. We will be having Mr. Fuzzy Davis come speak at our fishing club meeting Saturday at 5pm. Fuzzy has been a local fishing legend for years and has helped me out with my fishing excursions over the years. He will be talking about fishing locally for Redfish & Tarpon. This should be another great fishing club meeting hope to see all of you there!

Get Out There and Fish!

I know the last couple of weeks have been pretty chilly, well I have been bundling up and going out. On the sunnier days the wind still makes it pretty chilly. If you can get out of the wind and be in the sun it is actually quite pleasant. I had been fishing rat-l-traps and jerkbaits to try and get a reaction bite out of the bass. Well that was not very productive. I switched over to a shaky head with a shaky head worm and caught two bass in five casts! This is just one of many examples of finding out the pattern. They didn’t care for the loud rattle baits, but really liked the presentation of the shaky head dancing on the bottom.

Also resident Mr. Gary Bull caught this great hybrid bass while trolling on his boat. Great Catch! So keep on fishing and get after them. If you need any assistance swing by the Tackle Box or shoot me an email. Tight Lines Everyone!

New Record Bass!

Well The Hampton Lake Record Bass has changed once again! Our General Manager Wade Bales caught this massive 6lb 6oz bass! That makes the top three bass #1 6lbs 60z #2 5lbs 2oz #3 4lbs 10oz

You can be the next person to catch the record they are out there! Good luck and keep fishing!

Getting Back to Basics

Just a friendly reminder that this Saturday February 20th we will be doing a back to basics meeting at Doc’s at 11am. We will be covering anything and everything that you want to know about fishing. This is for any beginners, so come on down to Doc’s and let’s get back to basics!

Well the weather may be cold and windy, but the fishing isn’t completely dead. We went out on Sunday afternoon and saw the bass schooling up on the surface eating Shad. Well I through out a Rat-L-Trap and got a short bite, and a friend of mine casted a Rat-L-Trap as well and he hooked up on a nice fat 3.5lb tigerbass. So this shows that we are still catching bass! :) So come on by to Doc’s this Saturday and get back to basics so  you can catch a even bigger bass than that!

Fishing Club Meeting February 13th

New Second Place Bass !!!

Well I was sick of sitting inside hiding from the rain, so I got out on the dock and was going to cast a wacky worm around the docks to try to catch one of these huge bass we’ve been seeing. WELL guess what? First cast and I caught this Fat Fish! She was 4lbs 10 oz beat my old record by 8 oz and 8 oz shy of the current record :( ….She was released very shortly after being caught and swam off fine. So she can be caught again another day

Nature Walk !

Well I went for a pleasant morning nature walk, and saw some great stuff. I walked the “B” trail. Which took me about 45 mins walking it pretty average pace, taking as many pictures as I could on the way. It was nice and cool with the warm sun beating down on the path. I enjoyed it very much and can’t wait to go do it again. If you would like to do a Nature Tour with me come by and set up a time to go out with me at the Tackle Box. Here Are Some of the things I saw.
