Q: Where does all the water come from?
A:  The water source for Hamton Lake is rainfall and surface-water runoff. Lake levels are expected to fluctuate annually with rainfall. Since 2007, summer lake fluctuation has averaged six inches.

Q: How does Hampton Lake and Hampton Preserve benefit the indigenous wildlife?
A:  Hampton Lake and Hampton Preserve provide a variety of important wildlife habitats utilized by indigenous wildlife including wild turkey, deer and numerous bird species such as egrets, herons and bald eagles.

Q: Are boats permitted on the Lake?
A:  Yes. Hampton Lake allows for low-impact recreational boating to protect our sensitive lake and wetland banks.

Q: Can you fish on the Lake?
A:  Yes. Hampton Lake is stocked with largemouth bass (Tiger Bass), bluegill sunfish, redear sunfish, golden shiners, threadfin shad, fathead minnows, and hybrid bass. Our Tiger Bass, stocked in June 2007, already weigh on average between 3-4 lbs.

Q: How is the fish habitat maintained?
A:  Fish will be intensively manager to produce the best freshwater fishing in this region. Ample under-water structure, spawning shelves and habitat were incorporated into the lake design. Additionally, there are fifteen feeding stations placed in various locations, and the overall lake is fertilized twice a year in the Spring and Summer. Seven aeration systems provide additional oxygen increasing available fish habitat during warm months.

Q: How is the Lake water quality maintained?
A:  Lake maintenance consists of routine water quality monitoring, aquatic plant control, and fish population monitoring via contracts with companies that specialize in these services. Results of water quality monitoring determines management activities, such as adding lime to stabilize pH levels.
